Darrell and Robbie Shop for Cars - Bad Luck Shopping Stories
Darrell and Robbie are brothers and both have old beat up cars. Every time Darrell sees Robbie, he complains that he hates his old car as it is continually breaking down. Robbie hates his old car too and wants a new one. The next week Darrell goes to Cairns and comes back with a new car.
Darrell jumps out of his new car at Robbie's place.
"I saw it in the car yard in Cairns, took it for a test drive and fell in love with it straight away", says Darrell.
"How can you afford this?" asked Robbie.
"The car dealer arranged everything for me, all I had to do was sign some loan papers. It will only cost me $150.00 per week for the next five years." Darrell explains.
What Darrell failed to work out was that meant that he would be paying $39000.00 for a car that was only worth $22000.00. The extra $17000.00 was the interest that will be charged for borrowing the money for the car.
Robbie on the other hand decided to make a real effort to save money. Robbie was careful with every cent he spent and saved on everything he could. A year went by and Robbie decided it was time to go to Cairns a look around for a car. A couple of days before Robbie was due to go to Cairns, he rang his Uncle and asked him if he knew of any car dealers that he considered to be trustworthy. Robbie's Uncle agreed to ask around and to go looking for a car with Robbie when he arrived in Cairns.
A few days later Robbie pulled up outside Darrell's place in his new car. Well it was not new, but it was in excellent condition and it was not the same make of car as Darrell's, but similar.
"That's a nice looking car Rob. How much a week do you have to pay?" asked Darrell.
"I don't have to pay anything per week. I paid cash for this car, it's all mine and I only paid $13000.00 after trading my old bomb in for $1500.00." I have been saving all year and it has really paid off." says Robbie.
Today Robbie spends his weekends fishing with family and friends while Darrell is a bit stressed with keeping the payments for the car going at the same time as maintaining the vehicle. Darrell is trying to get some overtime just to make ends meet and he still has another four years of payments to go.
