ICAN Personal Finance and Consumer Assistance Training Project
In April 2006, ICAN received sponsorship from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) to develop and deliver an exciting new "Personal Finance and Consumer Assistance Training" Program.
The personal finance training is developed specifically for Indigenous consumers. We created our training program from our vast experience in working with Indigenous consumers in remote communities. ICAN sourced the topics covered in its training from our client database, which now holds close to 500 client data files with a wide range of consumer and financial matters experienced by Indigenous people nationwide.
Basing the training on four units of competency in the Certificate I - Financial Services training package, service providers and community residents have the opportunity to learn how to prepare a personal budget, start saving money, manage their debts and ulitilise banking services within their communities.
The ICAN Personal Finance Training Program began in April 2006, but began delivery to 20 Indigenous communities across Queensland in August 2006. In mid-late 2006, the ICAN financial literacy program has been delivered to the following communities;
| Pormpuraaw |
Kowanyama |
| Mapoon |
Napranum |
| Wujal Wujal |
Yarrabah |
ICAN has scheduled delivery of six more communities in early - mid 2007. Read more about the ICAN training in our monthly ICAN E-Newsletter! |
